Alexandria University joins the union of Road and Tie of environment leaders
Dr. Essam El Kordi the President of Alexandria University declared that Alexandria University was selected to join the union of Road and Tie of environment leaders during the forum of environmental institutes' deans. The forum was held in Shanghai in China under the umbrella of the United Nations as a part of the agenda of sustainable development 2030.
Dr. Kordi added that Alaa Eldin Ramadan the Dean of the Faculty of Science represented the university during the forum activities in Tungy University. He said that the union is a communication network for universities and institutes in environment field and is considered as a platform for information related to environmental solution and cooperation with member countries through joint workshops, projects and experience exchange in environment and sustainable development.
Alexandria University achieves boost in 7 scientific disciplines within Shanghai Ranking
Dr. Essam El Kordi, the President of Alexandria University said that Alexandria University has achieved great boost in 7 scientific disciplines according to Shanghai Ranking results for scientific and literary disciplines at global level in 2018. He said that this is the first time the university to be included in the Veterinary sciences and Dentistry Medicine, coming inside the range 201-300 in the world.
Also, the university occupied advanced places in electrical and electronical engineering and in Pharmaceutical Sciences, coming inside the range 301 to 400, in addition to chemical, energy science of engineering and agriculture sciences where it occupied places from (410 to 500).
Dr. Kordi added that in the frame of the state attitude towards the global classification of the Egyptian Universities, two committees were formed headed by Dr. Mokhtar Youssef, Vice President of the University for Researches and Graduate Studies and Dr. Essam Khamis, the President Advisor for Global Classification and Scientific Research. He indicated that the first committee will work on improving the global classification of Alexandria University where the committee members will represent faculties and institutions of the university. The second committee will provide technical support of the university magazines and it will invite the local and expat experts to improve the university magazines published in English and Arabic language on Hollandia Elsevier and American Web of Science.
The president said that the university conducts workshops for chief editors of the scientific magazines to be aware about indexation and indicated that the magazine of the Faculty of Engineering was indexed in Elsevier in addition to uploading of another four magazines on the Egyptian Knowledge Bank. He also asserted that the Magazine of the Faculty of Medicine will be indexed in Taylor and Francis publisher.
The Rector appraised the efforts of Alexandria University staff resulted in that great achievement that can be considered as an indication on the development of the education process and scientific research in the university.
President of Alexandria University to Emirates Al Bayan Newspaper "Technology revolution will displace 70% of the current jobs"
Dr. Essam Elkordi, the President of Alexandria University stated that the Arabian youth must develop their skills to cope with the fourth industrial revolution and knowledge forward steps in addition to rapid technological developments. This came during an interview with reporter Mirvat Abdel Hameed from Emirates Al Bayan Newspaper within Dr. Elkordi participation in “Knowledge Summit 2018" held from 5th to 6th of December in Dubai. The summit was opened by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, The Crown Prince and the President of the Executive Board.
Dr. Elkordi through his speech pointed out that the Egyptian government seeks to be involved in this revolution by conversion into digital society that should enhance the administrative reforming and develop the governmental services. He praised Emirates experiment which presented unique forward-looking vision.
University President Dr. Kordi stressed that the educational institutions must develop its tools to cope with the technological revolution which will result in disappearance of 70% of current jobs and replacing by the robots like in medicine field. Dr. El Kordi said that the students should be enforced by creative skills and tools via internet.
Dr. El Kordi added that UAE government has passed a long way towards smart education and jumped from the twenty fifth to nineteenth place over the world, therefore UAE is proud and all Arabs also. He said that the of initiative Shiekh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation qualifies youth to create programs and smart applications so that youth will be able to meet careers requirements in the future. El Kordi appreciated that the initiative objective to literacy 30 million of Arab people because the illiteracy has negative effects on community nature, culture and level
Two centers in Alexandria University financed by United States Agency
Dr. Essam Elkordi the President of Alexandria University with Mrs. Rebecca Latorraca Deputy Mission Director of US Agency for International Development USAID, Dr. Francis J. Ricciardone AUC President, and Dr. Ashraf Hatem the AUC’s counselor have inaugurated two centers for professional development in the Faculties of Engineering and Commerce. The two centers are among 20 centers for professional development in Egyptian universities which were established by AUC with finance of USAID.
Dr. Kordi highlighted the main role of professional development centers in preparing students to meet labor market needs. He added that these centers will be additional link between the university and industries and be updated with labor market requirements to rehabilitate graduates.
Mr. Francis said that "AUC celebrates 100 years of distinguished education and Egyptian community services. We are happy to participate our experience in the professional development centers". The value of these centers lies in training the center's employees as professional services providers and preparing students to face employers needs and I want to thank American people for providing these centers through US Agency for International Development financial.
Mrs . Rebecca said that Alexandria University along its history over 75 years was pioneer in education in the region and continue to provide resources and opportunities for the students.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Dr. Said Allam said "We are proud to host the university center of professional development to provide our students with personal skills needed to enter the labor market".
Dean of the Faculty of Commerce Dr. Sayed el Saify said that the center will add a new dimension to the relation with business sector in Alexandria that guarantees that the graduates are well prepared for work life and updated with latest technologies in the industry.
The event was attended by professors from AUC, USAID, Alexandria University deputies and deans in addition to attendants from private universities in Alexandria.
Alexandria University honors Faculty of Engineering for scientific publishing
Alexandria University Council headed by Dr. Essam El Kordi, the President of Alexandria University honored Dr. Said Allam, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for the achievement of coming second among scientific periodicals according to Scimago Index
The Council also honored Dr. Mahmoud Almas, the Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy for obtaining distinguished scientific publishing award in the Pharmaceutical Sciences in the international indexed magazines ISI -list.
The Council approved to update the ISI 2016 to ISI 2017 starting from January 2019 for researchers favor.
