Alexandria University Council Praises Egypt's Success in Hosting COP27 Summit
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, praised during the University Council meeting today, Tuesday the 29th of November, the distinguished efforts made by Egypt during the activities of the huge global event of the 27th session of Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, on the technical and organizational levels, in the presence of nearly 120 heads of state and government who participated in the summit.

. The president of the university reviewed the meetings that took place on the side-lines of the conference, including the meeting with Dr. Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, Professor Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Konsowa and some presidents of public universities, with the aim of discussing strengthening cooperation with the universities of the French region. He also reviewed other meetings with many officials of universities and international institutions in the blue and green regions to discuss mechanisms for strengthening and supporting ways of cooperation with them. He emphasized the participation of Alexandria University in several events at both the local and international levels during the year chaired by Egypt after the COP27 Climate Summit, to direct efforts and pledges to preserve the planet from the dangers of negative and dangerous repercussions of climate change until the handover of the presidency in COP28 to the sister country of the Emirates.

• The university president also reviewed the results of Alexandria University's participation in the meetings of the 14th General Assembly of the Conference of Rectors in the Middle East Region (CONFREMO), organized by the Francophone University Agency in the Middle East (L'Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie - AUF) in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on the 17th and 18th of November. President of Alexandria University and Regional Director of the Francophone University Agency discussed the agency's support mechanisms for the branch of Alexandria University in N’Djamena - Chad to have an enlightening and developmental role and a gateway to attract Francophone students in Central Africa, explaining that the university will prepare a memorandum of requirements to be sent to the Francophone Agency.

• The Council approved the establishment of a bachelor’s degree in Oral and Dental Medicine with the credit hours system as a joint degree with the College of Dentistry, University of Manchester, with the application of the international program regulations for credit hours.
• The Council agreed to update the list (JCR2020 (SC1E and SSCI) currently approved by the Council of Alexandria University, which contains 12,324 journals distributed over 236 majors, with the list (JCR 2021 (SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI), which contains 13,785 journals distributed over 264 majors, which was recently issued, for the benefit of researchers, to be implemented as of January 1, 2023.
• The Council approved a proposal for a virtual exchange project of Alexandria University students and their counterparts at Georgia State University in the framework of teaching a course in the field of international business administration at the Faculty of Commerce.

• The Council also approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Alexandria and the University of Banja Luka-Sarajevo, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University, the Centre for Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language for the CLS Spark Program and the American Council for International Education, and Appendixes No. (1) and (2) of the Framework Agreement for International Cooperation between Alexandria University and the University of Caen-Normandy in France, a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science and the Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Benghazi, a protocol of cooperation between the Higher Institute of Public Health and the Association of Healthy Hearts, a memorandum of cooperation between the Regional Centre for Remote Sensing for North African Countries )CRTEAN( and the University of Alexandria, and a memorandum of cooperation between King Abdulaziz University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Alexandria University regarding cooperation in the academic, research, development, training and cultural fields.
• The council approved the donation of 50,000 pounds from East Alexandria Innerwheel Club, to pay the expenses of financially challenged students, the donation from a businessman in Alexandria in the amount of 86,000 pounds for the same purpose, and the donation from the family of the late Professor Fouad Sabry Heikal from the Faculty of Fine Arts, of 139 books with a total value of 14 thousand pounds.
• The council approved the promotion of 23 faculty members, 13 to the position of professor, 10 to the position of associate professor, the appointment of 30 lecturers, and the granting of 93 doctoral degrees and 110 master's degrees in various scientific disciplines.
Renewal of Alexandria University’s ISO 9001/2015 Certificate for Eighth Year in a Row
Alexandria University obtained the "ISO" quality management systems certificate for the general administration of the university, after the visit of the (American GIC company) team, which grants ISO certificates.
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, had received the auditing team from GIC, which grants various ISO certificates, today, Monday, the 28th of November, after the team had checked for two days the implementation of the international standards through examining documents, field visits, and interviews in the various university departments. It was approved to re-grant the certificate to the university's administrative body, so that it becomes valid for the next three years, provided that the annual review of the application of the certificate takes place.

During his speech, Dr. Konsowa thanked the administrative staff at Alexandria University for their efforts to preserve the status of the university and to obtain the renewal of the ISO certificate. He stressed that this result is the culmination of the efforts of the administrators and employees. He also thanked the visiting team headed by Engineer Amr El-Helw and the members of the accompanying team, and added that the human element is the basis for the success of any administrative system, explaining that the university will hold in the coming period a package of training courses for workers in the university's administrative structure, with the aim of preparing second and third grade cadres capable of bearing the burden of management in the coming period, in addition to selecting second grade cadres from members of the teaching staff to have leading and pioneering roles.

Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, thanked the university's administrative staff, and confirmed that the university provides permanent support to its employees to continue its successful and dedicated working system.
Mr. Mohamed Fathi Abulnasr, who is in charge of the affairs of the Secretary General of the University, confirmed that Alexandria University headed by Dr. Konsowa is exerting its maximum effort to achieve administrative quality in light of the state's drive towards digital transformation, in order to facilitate services and save time and effort. He stressed that this interest comes from the desire to achieve clear foundations for continuous evaluation and development, to achieve the required set of development goals, according to Egypt's Vision 2030.
The visit was preceded by the preparation and rehabilitation of the university’s departments in accordance with the international standards of ISO 9001/2015, under the supervision and follow-up of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Mr. Mohamed Fathi Abulnasr, who is in charge of the affairs of the Secretary General of the University, and the assistant secretaries of the university, where the Quality Assurance Department at the university under the supervision of Dr. Kamal Kamal Metwally, the supervisor of the administration, assisted by the quality team at the university, published and followed up the application of the standards on the various departments of the university.
It is worth noting that the university obtained the ISO 9001/2008 certificate in May 2015, and the certificate was renewed for the years 2016 and 2017, while 2018 the new standards were converted to ISO 9001/2015, on the basis of which it was renewed for three consecutive years. The ISO certificate was re-awarded for this year after the granting authority praised the level of application and continuous improvement.
The closing session was attended by the assistant secretaries, the quality team, general managers, department directors, department coordinators for quality, and university employees.


Dr. El-Ghandour in Opening Session of International Conference of Higher Institute of Public Health "Telehealth": Telemedicine has become a necessity at the present time to provide medical services to citizens
Dr. Ashraf Al-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research, inaugurated on Sunday the 27th of November the activities of the tenth international conference, organized by the Higher Institute of Public Health in cooperation with the World Health Organization (Eastern Mediterranean Office) and Save the Children of the United Nations, under the auspices of their excellencies Professors Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University.
The Conference held under the title “Telehealth” will last for two days, in the presence of Dr. Heba El-Qadi, Dean of the Higher Institute of Public Health, Dr. Engy Mohamed El-Ghitani, Vice-Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Nisreen El-Nemr, Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, Dr. Naima Al-Qaseer, Representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Jarallah, President of the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences and former Kuwaiti Minister of Health, Dr. Amira Tahio, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria, engineer Hoda Dahroug, representative of the Ministry of Communication Technology and information technology, and a group of experts and those interested in public health from the Arab world, Africa, Europe and America, and faculty professors in Egyptian universities.

In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that the conference is hosting health experts from around the world, hoping that it will come out with recommendations that contribute to improving the public health of all citizens. El-Ghandour stressed the importance of telemedicine in providing medical advice to patients remotely, especially citizens living in remote areas. He added that the COVID-19 pandemic was a main incentive to develop digital transformation in the health sector and help patients by using telemedicine in various hospitals in the world. He also stressed that the use of smart devices and artificial intelligence has become necessary in the medical sector to raise the level of health care to very advanced stages.

While Dr. Heba El-Qadi confirmed that the conference in its current session adopts an important topic, which is "telehealth", and new visions of public health in the third millennium are presented during its sessions. The conference also addresses many aspects of the concept of telehealth, its present and future, its role in emergency situations, its advantages and disadvantages, its structure, and its role in scientific research. Dr. El-Qadi indicated that the first session of the conference is titled "Health Perception from a Distance", during which the keynote speaker will be Dr. Hisham Kouzou, Professor of Hearing and Balance Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University, member of the Digital Transformation Committee of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, the academic supervisor of electronic health programs and a member of the Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine. Also participating in the other sessions are Dr. Engy Mohamed El-Ghitani, Professor in the Tropical Medicine Department at the Higher Institute of Public Health at Alexandria University, and Dr. Nisreen El-Nimr, Professor of Epidemiology at the Institute of Public Health.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Jarallah indicated that academic studies have proven the importance of e-health, especially after the spread of COVID-19, confirming that it is not possible to achieve a bright future for public health without achieving progress in digital health and the Internet. Al-Jarallah appealed to governments and medical institutions to support and develop digital health programs and artificial intelligence, in order to catch up with progress in the medical field.
Dr. Amira Tahio thanked the organizing committee of the conference for giving young doctors at the Ministry of Health the opportunity to present research papers for the first time at this international conference. She indicated that the Ministry of Health hopes for more cooperation with Alexandria University to train doctors, present research papers and contribute to development and community service.
Engineer Hoda Dahroug confirmed that telemedicine is a presidential initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, pointing out that information and communication technology contributed to improving public health after the spread of COVID-19, and confirmed that this service is now available in remote villages and governorates.
Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour Attends Silver Jubilee Celebration of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department at Alexandria University
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, inaugurated the celebration of the silver jubilee of the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at Alexandria University, which lasted for two days at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

In his speech, Dr. El-Ghandour stressed that there is a new boom in the treatment of tumours with the latest radiation therapeutic techniques and new immuno-targeted therapies, adding that the aim of the conference is to introduce modern methods of treatment of tumours, which contributes to providing therapeutic and medical services to oncology patients. He added that there is a huge leap and comprehensive change in the treatment of tumours in the Arab and African region, especially with the rapid development of surgical methods and the introduction of highly complex and highly accurate radiological devices in targeting and eliminating malignant tumours.

While Dr. Yousry Rostom, Head of the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, confirmed that the celebration witnessed the holding of 36 scientific sessions, training courses for young doctors, and workshops in radiotherapy, as well as training on all the various modern methods of treating tumours with the latest radiation therapeutic techniques and treatments. He highlighted the specialized seminars held during the celebration in the field of clinical pharmacy and nursing services for oncology patients, and training workshops for young doctors, physicists, technicians, and pharmacists to acquire and exchange experiences with their peers in Egypt and the world.
The delegation of the American Society for Radiotherapy participated in the celebration, accompanied by Dr. Tamer Refaat, Head of the Radiotherapy Department at Loyola University in Chicago, in addition to specialized professors from the USA, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, England, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Sudan, as well as Egyptian experts from various Egyptian universities, and a large group of oncology specialists in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.

Unit for Combating Violence against Women at Alexandria University Organizes Award Ceremony for “16 Arts” Competition
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Unit for Combating Violence against Women at the University organized on Friday, the 25th of November, the award ceremony of the 16 Arts Competition in the Grand Conference Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, as part of the unit’s participation in the global campaign (The 16-day Campaign Against Violence) which starts on November 25th and ends on December 10th.

Dr. Manal Fouda, Executive Director of the Unit, stated that this competition comes to encourage students to express their rejection of all forms of violence in an interactive manner, that resulted in a large number of creative participations from university students, explaining that the competition was held over a month in all Faculties and institutes of the university, during which students presented many artistic works, which included drawing, photography, creative writing, theatrical performance, musical composition and other arts.
At the end of the ceremony, the 16 winners at the university level were announced, and a financial prize of 1,000 pounds was presented to each of them. All students participating in the competition were honoured and presented with certificates of appreciation and in-kind prizes.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Baheya El Ekhriti, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Dr. Magda El-Shazly, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women, in addition to a group of vice deans of different faculties, and the coordinators of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women from among the faculty members at the university.
