Alexandria University hosts American expert in pediatric cardiac surgery at Smouha Children’s Hospital

Within the framework of Alexandria University’s commitment to advancing its medical services and strengthening international cooperation in healthcare, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of the University, received Dr. Ziad Hegazy, Consultant of Pediatric Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology in the United States, and one of the leading experts in percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation, during his visit to the University Children’s Hospital in Smouha.
The visit was attended by Dr. Afaf El-Awady, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Tamer Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Essam Bedewy, Acting Executive Director of University Hospitals; Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Supervisor of the International Relations Office; Dr. Manal Abdel Gawad, Head of the Department of Pediatrics; and Dr. Hani Adel, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics.
During the meeting, Dr. Abdel Hakim welcomed the guest, emphasizing that the University places the development of its hospital system at the forefront of its priorities. He noted that the Smouha Children’s Hospital is continuously striving to provide the latest diagnostic and therapeutic approaches by hosting distinguished international expertise and transferring advanced medical technologies, particularly in the field of interventional cardiology for children.
For his part, Dr. Tamer Abdullah explained that the visit of the American expert lasted over two days, April 22 and 23, during which five successful pulmonary valve replacement procedures were performed via catheterization for children aged between 10 and 18 years, in collaboration with a specialized medical team from Alexandria University.
Dr. Ziad Hegazy expressed his pleasure at visiting Alexandria University, praising its distinguished scientific and medical standards. He noted that percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation represents a major breakthrough in the treatment of pediatric heart diseases, despite its high cost. He also extended his gratitude to the Egyptian Food Bank for its full support and for covering the cost of these procedures, enabling children to receive life-changing treatment and return to normal life.

Alexandria University participates in the launch of the celebration “Alexandria: The Birth of a Global City”

Within the framework of Alexandria University’s commitment to supporting initiatives that highlight the cultural and historical identity of the city of Alexandria, and to enhance its role as a center of scientific and cultural influence, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, participated in the launch of the celebration “Alexandria: The Birth of a Global City,” held under the patronage of Alexandria Governorate in commemoration of the city’s founding.
The event witnessed wide participation from executive, diplomatic, and cultural leaders, in a gathering that reflects the ancient legacy of Alexandria and its enduring civilizational significance, reaffirming its status as a global city that blends authenticity with modernity.
The event was attended by a high-level delegation led by Engineer Ayman Atia, Governor of Alexandria; Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; along with a number of ambassadors, consuls, and representatives of relevant institutions. The celebration was organized in cooperation between Alexandria Governorate, the Greek Embassy, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and several cultural and archaeological institutions.
The celebrations featured a ceremonial parade that started in front of the Greco-Roman Museum on Fouad Street, passing by the statue of Alexander the Great at the Clock Square, and concluding at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The parade included Egyptian and Greek children and youth wearing traditional costumes, in a symbolic scene reflecting the cultural diversity that has distinguished the city since its foundation.
The event also included a variety of artistic and cultural performances, such as Egyptian and Greek folklore shows, military music, and maritime and theatrical performances along the Alexandria Corniche, in addition to heritage presentations that highlighted the city’s rich history and civilizational legacy, in a festive atmosphere that drew strong audience engagement.
The participation of the President of Alexandria University reflects the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the cultural and historical identity of the city and reinforce its role as a hub of scientific and cultural influence, in line with Alexandria’s standing as a global city that unites heritage and modernity.


Alexandria University Organizes a “Children’s University” Activity Day Under the Theme “Sustainability as a Way of Life” Coinciding with the International Day of the Children’s University

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, and Dr. Gina El-Feky, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Alexandria University organized a diverse activity day for Children’s University students under the theme “Sustainability as a Way of Life.” The event was held at the Faculty of Agriculture, coinciding with the International Day of the Children’s University launched by the European Children’s University Network, and within the framework of the university’s support for the country’s sustainable development efforts.

The event was supervised by Dr. Hanaa Saleh, Coordinator of the Children’s University at Alexandria University, and Dr. Rana El-Refaie, Executive Director of the Children’s University at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
The activities were inaugurated by Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, who noted that the event aligns with the “Save It… Light It” initiative launched by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. She emphasized the university’s commitment to instilling sustainability concepts among children and raising their awareness of environmental and societal issues.
In the same context, Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, along with the deans, inaugurated an exhibition held on the sidelines of the event, featuring models, designs, and innovations reflecting the Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to products from recycling workshops. The exhibition was supervised by Dr. Bahia El-Akhrity, Children’s University Coordinator at the Faculty of Specific Education.
The event was attended by several academic leaders, including Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Dean of the Faculty of Education; Dr. Heba Sabry Salama, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Nagda Mady, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education; and Dr. Lamia Ahmed Othman, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education, along with vice deans, Children’s University coordinators from various faculties, and a number of faculty members.
Dr. Hanaa Saleh highlighted that children are the stewards of the future and the bearers of the nation’s path toward sustainability. She stressed that their potential must not be overlooked, and that the Children’s University works to embed sustainability concepts as a way of life to ensure continued development and prosperity for Egypt.
The day featured a variety of scientific and awareness activities. Children presented an educational theatrical performance titled “Planet of Light,” written by Dr. Hadeer El-Daghar, Children’s University Coordinator at the Faculty of Arts, and directed by Ms. Mai Abdel Razek Awad from the Department of Theatre Studies.
The program also included workshops on recycling household waste, supervised by faculty members, their assistants, and students from the Faculties of Specific Education and Early Childhood Education, aiming to grow environmental awareness and sustainability concepts among children.
The children also delivered two research sessions. The first, titled “Towards Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” presented a simplified overview of the 17 goals and ways to apply them in daily life, under the supervision of Ms. Amira Maher, Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Assistant Coordinator of the Children’s University. The second session, titled “The Future Through Today’s Minds,” was supervised by Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Assistant Professor of Educational Technology at the Faculty of Specific Education, where children shared their vision for Egypt’s future in light of achieving sustainable development goals.
The event concluded with an emphasis on the importance of such initiatives in developing children’s awareness, refining their skills, and strengthening their connection to environmental and societal issues, reflecting Alexandria University’s commitment to preparing a conscious generation capable of actively contributing to building the future.

Coordination Meeting Between Alexandria University and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to Enhance Cooperation

Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, received Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, at the university’s headquarters to discuss ways to strengthen the strategic partnership and expand prospects for scientific and cultural cooperation between the two institutions.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Zayed congratulated Dr. Abdel Hakim on assuming his duties as Acting President of Alexandria University, expressing his appreciation for the university’s pioneering role as a distinguished academic institution that supports the education and research system in Egypt.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim emphasized the deep-rooted historical ties between the university and the library, affirming the university’s commitment to integrating efforts with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as a global beacon of cultural enlightenment. He noted that the coming period will witness significant momentum in joint activities aimed at serving researchers and strengthening Alexandria’s position as an international hub for academic excellence.
The two sides also discussed the importance of organizing additional cultural seminars and scientific forums, aimed at raising youth awareness and keeping pace with global developments in innovation and sustainable development. They further explored ways to enhance knowledge exchange mechanisms by providing access to digital resources and advanced research services offered by the library to students and faculty members at the university.
Council of Graduate Studies and Research Discusses AI Governance Strategy and Approves Formation of a Specialized Supreme Committee

During its session, the Council of Graduate Studies and Research at Alexandria University, chaired by Prof. Hisham Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, discussed the strategic objectives for AI governance at the university. This comes as part of the state’s direction toward digital transformation and the enhanced utilization of advanced technologies to support the development of higher education and scientific research systems.
The Council reviewed an analysis of the current status of AI applications within the university. Prof. Hisham Saeed highlighted several promising initiatives in digital education, research data analysis, and smart application development.
However, he emphasized the need for an integrated institutional framework to unify vision and maximize the benefits of these efforts.
The Council outlined a set of strategic objectives for adopting AI, including: developing the educational process by integrating AI concepts and applications into academic programs across disciplines to prepare graduates for future labor market demands; enhancing scientific research and innovation through the use of AI tools in data analysis, pattern discovery, and high-impact international publishing; and achieving intelligent digital transformation of university operations, including academic management systems, student services, and resource management based on data-driven solutions.
The objectives also include strengthening international partnerships and collaboration with leading universities, research institutions, and technology companies to support knowledge transfer and exchange of expertise. In addition, the Council stressed the importance of ensuring the safe and responsible use of AI by establishing regulatory and ethical frameworks, while adhering to data protection and privacy standards. It also emphasized leveraging AI applications to serve the community and local economy, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The Council discussed key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress in implementing the strategy.This include the number of developed academic programs in AI, the volume of AI-related scientific publications, the number of international partnerships and joint projects, the level of digital transformation in university services, and the rates of training and capacity building for faculty members.
