Honoring the researchers who won the Alexandria University initiative to support research
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, at the beginning of the meeting of the University Council, thanked the deans, vice-deans, and the secretary-general of the University for their efforts in coordinating and organizing the work of the second semester final exams for the academic year 2022/2023, which started a few days ago and will continue throughout the month of June, according to each faculty’s timetable, and according to the time map of the academic year approved by the Supreme Council of Universities. He gave his directions to the deans to pay attention for applying preventive health measures, in order to ensure the safety of all members of the academic community, and the speedy completion of grading and announcing the results to students as soon as possible.


• The council honoured the winning researchers in the Alexandria University initiative to support research, which was announced by the university’s project management unit last July, as 72 researchers submitted their research proposals, and 10 of them won a total funding of 200,000 pounds per project. Dr. Konsowa said that this initiative came with the aim of encouraging researchers to increase their output of applied scientific research and support the research community, especially since scientific research is one of the most important strategic pillars adopted by Alexandria University. He added that scientific research is a fundamental pillar in the transition towards a knowledge-based economy, and supporting international scientific publishing through grants and financial prizes for researchers who publish in internationally classified journals and applied research that is related to the industry in its comprehensive concept, highlighting distinguished, successful and applicable research results, improving the research level of scholars and providing them with various experiences, as well as supporting research and innovation and creating a spirit of scientific competition among all affiliates. * The council also honoured Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, on the occasion of the end of his deanship of the faculty.
* The Council approved the proposed agreement for the establishment and operation of the King Sunjong Institute between Alexandria University and the Korean Cultural Centre in Egypt, the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University and Moi University in Kenya, the student exchange agreement between Alexandria University and Shanghai University for International Studies in China, the general agreement for cultural and scientific cooperation between Alexandria University and the University of Sapienza Rome in Italy, the agreement for cultural and scientific cooperation between Alexandria University and the International Telematic University "UNINETTUNO" in Italy, and the memorandum of understanding between the University of Alexandria (Faculty of Fine Arts) the Academy dei Romani - the Institute of Fine Arts, Rome, Italy. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Dr. Graham Lord, Vice President of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and Dean of the University’s Medical Sector, signed an agreement for the first joint degree program in the Arab Republic of Egypt for a Bachelor of Medicine and Oral and Dental Surgery between the two universities, in the presence of Dr. Nancy Roswell, President of the University of Manchester and President of the British Russell Universities Alliance, Ambassador / Sherif Kamel, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Kingdom, Dr. / Rasha Kamal, Cultural Attache and Director of the Educational Mission in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and from the English side, Dr. Tony Hegerty, Dean of the College of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Nicholas Silicat, Dean of the College of Dentistry at the University of Manchester, and Professor Shamsa Farouk, International Relations Officer at the University of Manchester, and from the Egyptian side, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Dean of the College of Dentistry, and Dr. Amin Malti, responsible for the file of international agreements at Alexandria University with British universities, d. Dr. Konsowa indicated that the agreement provides for the start of studies with a joint degree at the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, starting next September (university year 2023-2024), with the credit hours system, under the full supervision of the University of Alexandria, and in accordance with the accreditation rules of the University of Manchester. He pointed out that the University of Manchester will follow up and review its application. He added that it is expected that joint scientific and research cooperation will take place between the University of Alexandria and the University of Manchester in several other fields, especially since the University of Manchester enjoys the 28th place in the world in the QS World Ranking and the first place in the world for sustainable development in the Times Higher Education Ranking. In addition to the cooperation between the two sides in establishing a joint research development program for outstanding researchers from the University of Alexandria with their counterparts from the University of Manchester to serve the vision of the Egyptian state and in line with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research announced by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, last March, in sponsoring scientific research and integrating it into the industrial sector.
For her part, the representative of the University of Manchester praised, during a visit, the level of educational quality provided through the medical joint degree program in medicine, which she began studying last September in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alexandria, which attracted new students from different countries at the level of the world, as she confirmed However, cooperation between the two sides takes place in an integrated manner through a pivotal strategic partnership that serves the goals of developing scientific research and ensures obtaining the highest academic appreciation for graduates of joint programs with Alexandria University for the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry.



Dr. El-Ghandour Receives Russian Delegation to Discuss Possibility of Opening Russian Universities Branches at Alexandria University
On Monday, the 29th of May 2023, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, received a Russian delegation consisting of representatives of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the ROSATOM Corporation for Russian Nuclear Energy. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sameh Shehata, supervisor of the International Relations Office at Alexandria University, Dr. Boshra Salem, Assistant President of the University for Universities Ranking, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Environmental Affairs and Community Service, Dr. Sherine Abdelsalam, Coordinator of the International Program for Neurosciences at the Faculty of Science, and Dr. Nelly Mostafa, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Assistant Vice President for Education and Student Affairs.

In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that the relations between Egypt and Russia are historical and deep-rooted, indicating that the meeting came with the aim of discussing issues related to opening branches of Russian universities at Alexandria University, on the side-lines of the second conference between Russia and Africa that will be held in St. Petersburg in July 2023. He added that the meeting also included a study of the establishment of joint scientific degrees in the bachelor's and doctoral levels, as well as the exchange of students and faculty members between Alexandria University and Russian universities.

While the Russian delegation reviewed the Russian universities and the scientific programs proposed for cooperation between them and Alexandria University. The delegation expressed its full readiness to cooperate with Alexandria University, especially as it is one of the leading universities in the Middle East and Africa.


The 12th Festival of Performing Arts at Alexandria University concludes its work and honors the winning students
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the closing ceremony of distributing individual awards and distinction awards for the 12th Festival of Performing Arts was held, organized by the Technical Committee of the Alexandria University Students Union in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Nursing, in the presence of the deans of the faculties and the vice deans of the university faculties for education and student affairs.
The awards were distributed by Dr. Muhammad Bahi El-Din, Dean of the College of Agriculture, on behalf of Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs. During the festival, 17 theatrical performances were held in the theaters of the Freedom Center for Creativity, the Anfushi Culture Palace Theater, and the University Theatre, under the supervision of the jury consisting of Dr. Manal Fouda, Professor of Acting and Directing and Head of the Theater Department at the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Sedika Lashin, Professor of Acting at the Theater Department at the Faculty of Arts, and Dr. Dalia Fouad, Lecturer of Decoration at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
The jury announced that the show “Ras Al Ghoul” for the Faculty of Pharmacy won the first place, and the show “Saint-Malo” for the Faculty of Engineering won the second place, and the show “Captain Yahya Al-Nashed Team” faculty of arts won the third place, and the student Ahmed Abdel Rahim - Faculty of Pharmacy won the best director award, and the student Ahmed Ashraf - Faculty of Pharmacy won the award for best actor in a first role, student Elizabeth Naim - Faculty of Engineering won the award for best actress in a first role, student Abdul Rahman Adel - Faculty of Engineering won the award for best actor in a second role, and student Farah Nader - Faculty of Fine Arts won the award for best actress in a second role.
