Minister of Higher Education and Vocational Training of Republic of Chad Receives Alexandria University's Delegation
Within the framework of the Egyptian state’s keenness to support joint ties with all African countries and expand the horizons of cooperation, and within the strategic framework to support Alexandria University's N’Djamena branch in the Republic of Chad, Dr. Tom Erdimi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Vocational Training in the Republic of Chad, received a delegation from Alexandria University headed by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, at the Ministry’s headquarters, to discuss aspects of joint cooperation in the field of higher education.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Konsowa conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to his Chadian counterpart. The Minister of the Republic of Chad expressed his sincere greetings to His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education of the sisterly country of Egypt and expressed all appreciation to the Egyptian state, and its scientific and developmental role, as well as Alexandria University's branch keenness and continuous efforts to expand the horizons of joint cooperation, providing programs compatible with the needs of the State of Chad and the Central and West African region, especially in the field of agriculture and veterinary medicine. He called for the continuation of joint initiatives and research projects and the expansion of educational programs to strengthen cooperation ties, create a brighter future, and achieve common development goals for both countries.
For his part, Dr. Konsowa stressed the keenness of Alexandria University to support its N’Djamena branch to provide a distinguished educational service to its students. He explained that the branch will have an enlightening and developmental role, and an attraction gateway for students in the Central and West African region. He pointed out that new specializations that the community in Chad and the region needs will be created in this branch, which will maintain the sustainability of the university branch and will be part of the development process. He also pointed out the possibility of opening the way for students of the Chad branch to obtain joint degrees from Alexandria University and a number of international universities, as well as the intention of Alexandria University to open a medical center that will be a nucleus for cooperation in the field of health and medical programs, pointing to the university’s goal of developing human cadres in Chad to complete the performance of the scientific thesis there. He also stressed the university’s keenness to support the branch academically, scientifically and artistically in a way that will have an impact on the sister country of Chad.
Alexandria University Council discusses the conduct of the second semester exams, is considering establishing a branch of the Finnish University in Borg El Arab, and approves a group of new programs
Alexandria University Council, headed by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, on behalf of Dr. Abdelaziz Konswa, President of the University, discussed the progress of the second semester exams for the academic year 2023/2024, which are taken by 190,000 male and female students distributed among 24 faculties and institutes. Stressing to the deans of colleges the need to provide all means of comfort that guarantee the conduct of exams in an atmosphere of calm and stability, and to adhere to the instructions and rules regulating the exam process, until most of them end before Eid al-Adha, and to begin correction and control work immediately after the completion of the exam for each subject.
- Based on the strategic direction of Alexandria University to establish international branches in cooperation with prestigious international universities, the Council agreed in principle to establish a branch of the Finnish University on the university’s land in Borg El Arab, and to form a committee headed by the University President, to study all the detailed aspects related to establishing the branch to be an academic complex for international branches. Integrated and smart, capable of attracting Egyptian and foreign students and contributing to the process of growth and development in accordance with the strategic vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Egypt Strategy 2030.
- The Council agreed to establish the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the College of Medicine and take the necessary measures in this regard.
0 The Council approved the establishment of the “Pharmacoeconomics” program at the College of Pharmacy, which is an interprofessional master’s program in which the departments of Pharmaceutics, Clinical Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Practice participate.
- The Council approved the establishment of a Master’s program in Dental Implantology, for postgraduate studies at the College of Dentistry, on a credit-hour system.
- The Council approved the establishment of a doctorate program in prosthodontics, for postgraduate studies at the College of Dentistry, on a credit hour system.
- The Council honored Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Advisor to the University President for Health Affairs, on the occasion of his reaching the legal retirement age, wishing him success.
- The Council approved the memorandum of understanding between the University of Alexandria and the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and the memorandum of understanding between the Polytechnic University of Bari in Italy to establish a partnership with some universities in the Mediterranean countries in the field of civil and environmental engineering, lands, construction, chemistry, etc., and the cooperation protocol between the University of Alexandria (Faculty of Law) And the Bar Association, approving in principle the cooperation agreement to be concluded between Alexandria University (Higher Institute of Public Health) and Al-Falah Academy for Health Promotion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science) and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The Council approved the donation submitted by Mrs. Suhair Ibrahim to the Department of Anesthesia and Oncology at the Medical Research Institute, which is a thermal frequency device worth about 1.5 million pounds.
- The Council approved the promotion of 25 faculty members, 10 to the position of professor, 15 to the position of assistant professor, the appointment of 29 teachers, and the granting of 84 doctoral degrees and 100 master’s degrees in various scientific specializations.
Medical program students at Alexandria National University organize a cultural and entertaining student day
Within the framework of Alexandria National University’s keenness to develop its students’ skills, enhance communication between them and their professors, and provide a supportive and stimulating educational environment for creativity and communication between students and faculty members, the students of the Medicine Program - Faculty of Medicine organized a cultural and entertaining student day, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Tantawi, Executive Director of the program. Medicine, and Professor Dr. Radwa Muhanna, general coordinator of the program.
The day included a series of valuable lectures that dealt with the professional path and job opportunities inside and outside Egypt for medical students, where Professor Dr. Ahmed Sabry, Professor of General Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine - Alexandria University and Director of the Compulsory Training Program at Alexandria University Hospitals, gave a lecture entitled “The Professional Path and Job Opportunities for Medical Students Dr. Mahmoud Raafat, teaching assistant at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine - Alexandria University, also gave a lecture on how to work in Britain and pass the PLAB exam, and the student Youssef Shehab Tanas, who received the highest score in the USMLE exam, spoke about how to pass this exam to work in the United States. The establishment of a scientific association for the program was also announced
Alexandria National Scientific Student Association, Preparation for which began last year with a distinguished team of students and is now recognized by the International Federation of Medical Student Associations in Egypt.
The second part of the day included entertainment activities and competitions in which students and faculty members participated, which contributed to strengthening the bonds of love and affection between them. Many students also excelled in displaying their talents in the fields of poetry, singing, and playing.
The students held meetings with members of the program management, Professor Dr. Ahmed Tantawi, Executive Director of the Medicine Program, Professor Dr. Radwa Muhanna, General Coordinator of the program, Professor Dr. Maha Hegazy, Head of the Measurement and Evaluation Unit and Head of the Program Curriculum Committee, and Professor Dr. Azza Baraka; Head of the program’s Quality Assurance Unit, and they spoke about the importance of balance between professional and personal life, how to develop students’ research skills, and the challenges facing new doctors and how to overcome them.

President of Alexandria University Inaugurates the Fab Lab for Reusing Plastic (PECA)
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, inaugurated today, Monday 27 May 2024, the Fab Lab for reusing recycled plastic (PECA), in light of the Sustainable Development Strategy - Egypt Vision 2030. The event was attended by Ambassador Lina Blin, Consul General of France in Alexandria, Dr. Jacqueline Azer, Deputy Governor of Alexandria, Dr. Essam Wahba, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Wael El-Meghlani, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Zeyad El-Sayyad, Assistant Professor of Architecture and the principal researcher for the project, Dr. Sameh Riad, Chairman of the Environmental Affairs Agency in Alexandria, Mr. Mohamed Hanno, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Businessmen Association, Professor Bastien Poggi, Vice President of the University of Corsica, Professor Thierry Verdel, Vice President of Senghor University, and Professor Robert Andre, President of the Horizon Solidarity Foundation, Mr. Remy Hallegouet, Director of France Volontaire for Africa and the Middle East, and Ms. Rogina Farag, Representative of the Government of the Southern Province of France.
In his speech, Dr. Konsowa stressed that the PECA project came as part of cooperation between the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in France and the Alexandria Governorate, with the aim of benefiting from plastic waste that ends up in the Mediterranean Sea, through the establishment and development of the digital manufacturing laboratory at Alexandria University, which will provide the opportunity to reuse converted and recycled plastic waste to manufacture prototypes and manufacture new products. He stressed that the project is the first tangible model in Alexandria that collects, sorts, and recycles waste, in addition to its contribution to reducing plastic pollution in the city by improving the management and recycling of plastic waste within the campus of the Faculty of Engineering. He pointed out that the project is expected to make use of plastic waste in the factory that was established on an area of 100 square meters, and to take the necessary health precautions for the safety of waste collectors and workers of any other entity involved in collection and sorting within the Faculty of Engineering.
While Dr. Jacqueline Azer emphasized the role of the digital manufacturing laboratory to serve the innovators and creators of Alexandria University students, pointing out that the Egyptian state played an influential role in the issue of environmental challenges by developing the National Strategy for Climate Change 2050 to coordinate between all ministries and concerned authorities in the country, regarding confronting the risks and threats of climate change, in addition to establishing a package of major national projects in Alexandria Governorate. She added that Alexandria was the first governorate to adopt the “Going Green” initiative to raise environmental awareness and protect resources to create healthy communities and move to a sustainable development pattern. She indicated that the projects that adopted environmental preservation are the Integrated Strategic project for Rainwater Management, and the Alexandria Beaches Protection Project to protect beaches from erosion, as well as areas at risk as a result of rising water levels.
Meanwhile, Dr. Essam Wahba, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, spoke about the role of the faculty and university in serving the surrounding local community as it is a house of integrated engineering expertise to serve Alexandria and the surrounding governorates, and he praised the role of the university and faculty in preserving the environment and adopting green transformation initiatives in various projects.
Ambassador Lina Blin, Consul General of France in Alexandria, welcomed the attendees and praised the excellent cooperation between the southern French region in particular and France in general with Alexandria at the governorate and university levels. She expressed her pleasure for inaugurating the project as a first stage of the fruits of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean, which strengthens the bonds of cooperation between the two countries.
While Dr. Zeyad El-Sayyad thanked everyone who contributed to bringing this project to light, explaining that the digital manufacturing laboratory will be an opportunity for collaborative and creative work in cooperative projects that work with recycled plastic waste through meetings that will take place with all parties concerned with plastic waste, in addition to the laboratory which will be gathering place for all parties concerned with plastic waste from various sectors, whether university and school groups, artists, designers, the industrial community, emerging companies and non-governmental organizations. He pointed out that the laboratory is open to all people who have ideas and projects and wish to implement them within the laboratory. He added that the total budget for the project amounted to 496,800 euros with support from the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, the Corsican community in France, the Alexandria Governorate and Alexandria University in Egypt.
Alexandria University Receives the Greek Ambassador to Cairo
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, the Greek Ambassador to Cairo, at the university’s headquarters in Shatby, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Alexandria University and Greek academic institutions.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Sameh Shehata, Supervisor of the University’s International Relations Office, Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant to the University President for International University Branch Affairs, and Dr. Naglaa Abou-Agag, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
In his speech, the University President welcomed the Greek Ambassador to Alexandria University, stressing his pride in the historical and strategic relations extending between the two countries. During the meeting, Dr. Konsowa demonstrated the university’s strategy to support applicable scientific research and the knowledge-based economy through the university’s technology incubator, the Alexandria University Technology Park, seeking to raise the level of education and enhance competitiveness through the internationalization of education using joint and dual academic degrees with major American and European universities and foreign university branches in South Sudan and Chad, and the establishment of branches of international universities with high classification and distinguished educational level in cooperation and coordination with Alexandria University. He pointed to the distinguished relations and cooperation protocols between Alexandria University and the Greek universities of Kapodistrian, West Attica, and Piraeus, pointing to the role of the Alexandria Centre for Hellenistic Studies, which was established in joint cooperation between the University of Alexandria, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the Greek Onassis and Vardinoyannis Foundations, expressing his aspiration for continued cooperation with Greek academic institutions in scientific and research fields of common interest.
The Greek Ambassador stressed his country's keenness to develop scientific and research cooperation with Egyptian academic bodies in general and Alexandria University in particular, given the historical connection between the two countries. He praised the distinguished level of Alexandria University in various academic fields and pointed to the development of political relations between the two countries after the formation of the high-level cooperation council, which It is a natural development and a reflection of the political will on both sides to increase the volume and level of cooperation.
