Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate studies and Research underlined the university interest in scientific research and the development of higher education through improving programs and curricula and capacity-building projects in terms of raising the competency of faculty members and laboratories development. The university also is keen on cooperation with prominent international universities to establish of common scientific degrees as well as to encourage travelling of students and researchers to study and research. He also stated that the university pays special attention to projects of the European Union that support the development of higher education. These statements were in the opening of the training workshop organized by the University recently on how to write projects proposals to support the development of higher education that are funded through grants provided by the European Union Program (Erasmus Plus). The workshop was attended by Eng. Karim Hamdi; the Deputy of National Coordinator of the European Union program in addition to a group of faculty members and graduate students of Alexandria universities, national universities and the Arab Academy of Science and technology .

Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research declared that and application is now open for the International Parliamentary grant - Arab Countries Program 2016 in according to the announcement received from Deutscher Bundestage.

The Alexandria University Council in its session on Tuesday 29th of December 2015 approved headed Dr. Rushdy Zahran approved the nominations of university faculties and institutes for the State Awards granted by the Supreme Council for Culture in 2016 as follows :

* For the Nile Prize (in Arts), Dr. Ahmed Abd Al-Wahab; Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Arts was nominated.
* For State Appreciation Awards (in Arts), Dr. Medhat Mohammed Metwalli; Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Fine Arts was nominated, while Dr. Zeinab Raafat was nominated in the field of literature and Dr. Said Abdul Aziz Othman was nominated in the field of social sciences. * For State Awards of Excellence (in Arts): Dr. Zeinab Murad Demerdash was nominated.

The Council also approved the nominations of university faculties and institutes for the State Awards granted by the Academy of Scientific Research for 2015 as follows:
* First: - State Appreciation Awards, Dr. Mamdouh Saad Massoud was nominated in basic sciences, while Dr. Abdul Aziz Moussa Nour was nominated in the area of agricultural science.
* Secondly: State Awards of Excellence, Dr. Amr Abdul Moneim El Masry; the Professor at Faculty of Engineering was nominated in the area of engineering science.

During the session the Council reviewed the annual report of the University for the academic year 2014/2015 which was prepared by the committee formed for this purpose under chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ismail Abdu; Dean of the Faculty of Science .

Dr. Rushdy Zahran, President of Alexandria University stressed on faculties deans to issue the schedules of first term exams for the academic year 2015/2016 in each faculty or on the Internet and to prepare suitable places for the exams. He also asserted to announce exams results within the first week of next March.

The University Council in its session held on Tuesday 29th of December 2015 stated that in case of being caught in flagrante delicto in the exams or of subverting its internal order, the involved persons will be punished according to the executive regulation of the universities organizing law No. 49/1972 in articles (124 and beyond 126 ). Accordingly and based on this article, the council clarified the facts of what was published recently about the Faculty of Engineering in this regard.

The Alexandria University Council in its session on Tuesday 29th of December 2015 approved the promotion of 19 members of the teaching staff, 6 of them to Professor Degree and 13 to the degree of Assistant Professor. The council also approved the appointment of 15 Lecturers and conferring 225 Master’s and 76 PhD degrees in various disciplines.

The council also approved the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University withUniversity of Pisa from Italy and the University of North Carolina from USA.
