Reception of the delegation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at Alexandria University

Within the framework of Alexandria University's keenness to support relations with international universities, and on behalf of Dr. Abdelaziz Konswa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, received a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences headed by Prof. Dr. Jan Zhao, Director of the Hangzhou Medical Institute, to discuss ways of cooperation between the two sides in common scientific fields of interest.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Bushra Salem, Assistant President of the University for International Classifications, Dr. Jihan Gouifle, Assistant President of the University for International Branches, Dr. Hanan Gouily, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Hala Hamouda, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Iman Shawky, Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Sherwit Hussein Abdel Latif, Professor of Textile Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Samah Al-Sahafi, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Lecturer of Textile Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering.

In his speech, Dr. Hisham Saeed with the Chinese delegation at Alexandria University, a presentation was given about Alexandria University, its history, the various colleges and institutes at the university, as well as the university's publishing statistics over the past years and Alexandria University's global ranking according to various international rankings. A presentation was also given about the international branches of Alexandria University and the extent of expansion and internationalization in the various programs at Alexandria University, a presentation about the Faculty of Pharmacy and its available programs, and a review of some projects of common interest with the Chinese Academy, including the production of natural silk as a joint project between the two sides. The Chinese delegation gave a presentation about the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the projects it provides in various fields.
Minister of Higher Education Inaugurates Educational and Health Projects in Alexandria Governorate
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated a number of educational and health projects at Alexandria University this morning, Saturday, accompanied by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, and a group of university presidents, and leaders of the ministry and the university.
The Minister began his visit by inaugurating the Vascular Catheterization Unit at Smouha University Hospital. The unit is considered one of the most modern vascular surgery and interventional catheterization units, and contains a modern catheterization device. This unit serves a wide segment of patients visiting Alexandria University hospitals and the surrounding governorates.
The Minister also inaugurated the Cardiac Care Unit at Smouha University Hospital, which is equipped with two units for cardiac and coronary artery catheterization. The unit operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The catheterization department has also been equipped with a rotablator spiral perforator and an IVUS intracoronary ultrasound device.
The Minister also inaugurated the Manchester Building at Al-Mowasat Hospital, which is dedicated to students enrolled in the joint program in the field of medicine and surgery, in cooperation with the University of Manchester, Britain. It consists of two buildings, an administrative building and an educational building, consisting of 4 floors, and includes lecture halls, computer labs, clinical simulation labs, small classrooms, and a library.
Dr. Ayman Ashour also visited the Faculty of Engineering, where he inaugurated Hall 1 of the Faculty after its redevelopment and renovation, and a number of adjacent rooms were added, in addition to some annexes to transform it into an integrated conference center for the university. The centre consists of a main hall and five seminar halls of different sizes equipped with smart screens to host various seminars and events. The main hall includes a theater equipped with all technological media to host various events, whether cultural, artistic or scientific, in addition to a hall for VIPs, service rooms and changing rooms in the case of artistic performances.
Dr. Ayman Ashour also inaugurated several projects in 5 university hospitals via video conference, namely the Pediatric Ophthalmology Surgery Unit at the One-Day Services Center of the Main University Hospital after its development, the Hearing and Balance Center at the One-Day Services Center after its development, the Injury and Spine Injuries Treatment Unit at El-Hadra University Hospital, in addition to the Radiotherapy Building for the Treatment of Pediatric Tumors at Borg El Arab University Hospital, which led to an increase in the capacity and medical services provided to treat children with malignant tumors. A number of units were also inaugurated after their development at the Main University Hospital, including the first-of-its-kind Brain and Nerve Tumor Surgery Capsule in the Northern Region, in addition to the opening of some intensive care units at the Main University Hospital, and the opening of the Central Laboratory for Analysis after its development to become a central automated laboratory to reduce the rate of human errors and increase the accuracy of medical tests. The Stroke Unit at El-Hadra University Hospital was also developed, which obtained accreditation from the World Stroke Organization.
The Minister stressed that the Ministry pays great attention to developing medical and health services at university hospitals, as one of the main pillars in providing health services to citizens, alongside the Ministry of Health hospitals, in addition to their educational and training role in preparing highly qualified doctors. He praised the unprecedented development witnessed by these hospitals, thanks to the unlimited support of the political leadership, noting that university hospitals enjoy the trust of citizens due to the distinguished health services they provide.
Dr. Ayman Ashour also praised the development witnessed by Alexandria University, which contributes to fulfilling its mission as desired, and providing the best medical services to citizens visiting its hospitals, praising the important role played by Alexandria University with its distinguished scientific cadres and expertise in all specializations to serve citizens in various sectors, especially the medical and therapeutic sectors.
Dr. Ashour stressed that these achievements and development at the university hospitals reflect the great interest that the political leadership pays to developing and modernizing university hospitals across the republic, in order to provide the best services to citizens, as well as reflecting the state's keenness to continuously support universities to carry out their scientific, educational and societal roles as required.
For his part, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa stressed that Alexandria University is keen to develop its educational facilities and raise the efficiency of its infrastructure to improve the quality of the educational and research processes at the university, as well as raise the efficiency of the university hospitals with the aim of increasing their capacity and improving the level of medical and therapeutic services provided to citizens.
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa pointed out that Alexandria University Hospitals play a major role in providing health services to the people of Alexandria Governorate and neighboring governorates, explaining that the university is keen to provide all modern technical needs and training on the latest developments that contribute to improving the skills of medical cadres and continuous development in the medical and health fields in order to raise the level of cadres working in the health field and medical services provided to citizens, in line with the implementation of the objectives of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the implementation of the strategic plan that the Egyptian state adopts to support and develop the health sector, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership on the importance of increasing efforts to develop the Egyptian health system and raise the efficiency of university hospitals, which are the core of medical services.
Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alexandria University University Hospitals, explained that the hospitals have witnessed the implementation of many important projects to improve the level of health services provided to citizens, extending his thanks to civil society institutions and the private sector for supporting the efforts to develop the university hospitals at Alexandria University.
Dr. Essam El-Badawy, Executive Director of University Hospitals at Alexandria University, confirmed that the university was keen to equip university hospitals with the latest medical devices and increase the capacity, pointing out that several medical projects were implemented in hospitals, as well as the creation of several units and the development and upgrading of the efficiency of many departments in 5 hospitals, which are: (the main university hospital, the one-day service center, Smouha Medical Hospital, Borg El Arab Hospital, and Hadra University Hospital).

Alexandria University's Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Council, which met on Wednesday, the 23rd of October 2024, headed by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, discussed the occupational safety and health file at Alexandria University. In this context, Dr. Saeed Allam stressed to all the vice deans of the faculties for community service and environmental development affairs the necessity of continuous evaluation of the occupational safety and health plan in all faculties and institutes of Alexandria University, and continuous and daily supervision of the procedures of the occupational safety and health management system in each faculty and institute, with the aim of securing the work environment, preserving the safety of individuals and facilities, and implementing the procedures and requirements of civil protection, occupational health and safety for university members, including following up on the efficiency of the infrastructure of buildings and facilities, and evaluating the fire extinguishing system, electrical works, lighting, and elevators. He pointed out the necessity of considering occupational safety and health as a way of daily life at the university and being fully prepared for crises and emergencies, and dealing with them quickly in a way that ensures prevention of risks. He also announced the university's workshops, training courses, and awareness courses, being held in order to raise individuals' awareness of safety procedures, occupational health, and the evacuation plan in the event of any disasters.

*The Council was also informed of the reports submitted by the Faculties of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and Nursing on their participation in the medical and community convoy within the presidential initiative "Bedaya: A New Beginning for Human Development", which was launched by the sector on October 11 to the Abis 8 area.

Inauguration of Third International Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Care PHS-2024 at Alexandria University
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, witnessed Wednesday evening the inauguration ceremony of the Third International Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Care 2024 - PHS, which is organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University, over the course of two days, October 23 and 24.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Hanan Geweli, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Yasser Refaat, former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Wael Aql, President of Nile University, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, President of Pharos University, Dr. Yasser El-Sonbaty, Vice President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, as well as a number of vice presidents of universities and faculty members of faculties of pharmacy in Egyptian and Arab universities.

During his speech, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen stressed that Alexandria University pays great attention to scientific conferences that would improve the outputs of scientific research at Alexandria University, noting that the conference is one of the largest international conferences for pharmaceutical and health sciences held in Egypt, and is attended by major pharmaceutical and health sector companies, as it includes an elite group of researchers from Egypt and several Arab and foreign countries. He added that Alexandria University seeks to link the outputs of scientific research to industry through its interest in all related parties, supporting ideas and innovations and employing them to serve and develop the industrial sector within society. Dr. Abdelmohsen stressed that he hopes that the conference will come out with recommendations that contribute to supporting the sector and developing pharmaceutical education and pharmaceutical services, developing pharmaceutical industries and drug discovery research.

While Dr. Hanan Geweli, Dean of the Faculty, confirmed that this conference is one of the largest international conferences held in Egypt and the Middle East and aims to exchange ideas, share innovations, and present the latest scientific research in the field of pharmacy. It also aims to identify the most important growing health care needs in society, calling for coming out with distinguished recommendations and results to serve the pharmacy sector in Egypt and the Middle East.
Dr. Sherif Rostom, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, pointed out that the conference will be attended by a group of prominent speakers, scientists, industry leaders, researchers, businessmen and students. The conference program will witness 13 sessions including 35 scientific lectures and 3 workshops presented by 23 Egyptian scientists in addition to 15 international speakers from Algeria, Canada, China, the United States of America, France, the Netherlands, England, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar. It is worth noting that the conference witnessed the establishment of a distinguished exhibition that includes 20 of the largest pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers, medical institutions and community partners.
