Alexandria University President Dr. Essam El-Kurdi congratulated Dr. El Sayed Abdellatif Al-Siefy on the occasion of the Republican decree to be appointed as Dean of Faculty of Commerce for three years.

 

Dr. Mohammad Ismail Abdo, Vice President of Alexandria University for Matroh Branch Affairs stated that the student is the core of the educational process so that development programs of the higher education should be directed to the student as the principle output of higher education. He indicated that AU is characterized by distinct educational programs in undergraduate and graduate levels and confers many joint degrees in collaboration with world universities.

That came during the symposium organized by the Committee of Higher Education Reform Experts H.E.R.E. in the conference hall of the Faculty of Medicine.

The symposium was attended by deans, deputies and faculty members of Alexandria University and other Egyptian universities.

Dr. Ismail added that higher education reform must address several items: education, students, graduates, faculty members, scientific research, community service and the development of the environment.

Prof. Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam, Vice-President of AU for Graduate Studies and Research declared that big universities focus its curricula and programs on the student and called to develop the pre-university education by developing appropriate curricula for the labor environment.

Dr. Yasser El-Shayeb, Director of the National Agency EU Programs NEO declared that the H.E.R.E committee is a selected group of Egyptian professors to perform continued development and researches with big universities in the European Union. He also stated that during 2017 a number of workshops will be held on medical education and students’ development.

The symposium included some presentations delivered by committee members on higher education reform issues.

Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, in cooperation with the Environmental Affairs Agency, organized, on Thursday, corresponding to 10/20-2022, a symposium entitled “Climate change between risks and adaptation” In the presence of Dr. Said Allam, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and the Acting Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Walid Abdel Azim, Vice Dean for Environmental Affairs and Community Service, and Dr. Sameh Riad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment in Alexandria and Head of the Agency Environmental Affairs for the West Delta Region, Dr. Hossam Maghazi, the former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Dina Al-Jayar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, the conference coordinator, and a group of faculty members, heads of companies’ boards and experts.

• Appointment of Dr. Naglaa Hassan Abdelhamid Abou-Agag, Professor and Head of the Department of English Language & Literature, Faculty of Arts, as Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies and Research for a period of three years.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, the Faculty of Medicine organized the graduation ceremony for class of 2022 (80th class) international students, who numbered 180 students from several countries: including Bahrain, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, Somalia, and Mauritania.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Hala Maklad, Director of International Students Department at Alexandria University, Dr. Abdullah Al-Harahsheh, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Dr. Thamer Al-Barakat, Deputy Consul of Iraq, Mr. Abdullah Al-Saadawi, Deputy Consul General of Palestine, Mr. Mohamed Hammad, Cultural Affairs Officer at the Consulate of Palestine, Mr. Ziyad Al-Masry, Deputy Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to the Vice Deans of the Faculty of Medicine, members of the faculty, and the Secretary General of the University.

In his speech, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen welcomed the representatives of the Arab embassies, parents, and graduates, stressing that today is the harvest day in which the students reap the fruits of their efforts that lasted for years, wishing them to be the best ambassadors of Egypt when they return to their countries, and that their efforts will be crowned with progress and success.

While Dr. Hala Maklad congratulated the students on their graduation, being the conclusion of one stage and the beginning of another, through the practice of a great human profession, which is the profession of medicine, stressing that they should be proud of belonging to the University of Alexandria. She also congratulated the parents and representatives of the embassies on the graduation of their sons and daughters, and their return home as qualified doctors capable of serving their countries.

The ceremony included a flag parade of the countries of all the graduates’ nationalities, in addition to honouring the graduates, a singing performance by the Faculty of Medicine choir, and the presentation of graduation certificates.
