Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, received on Sunday 21 January 2024, Dr. Amal Mowafi, Director of the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the American University in Cairo (AUC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher education and Scientific Research. The program aims to build the capabilities of Egyptian cadres working in the governmental and non-governmental sectors, Egyptian and private universities, and research centres, by providing scholarship opportunities for master’s and post-doctoral studies and short-term training that are consistent with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the National Climate Change Strategy.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant President of the University for International University Branch Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Abdelkarim Abd-Rabbo, former Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research and Director of the Centre for Adaptation to Climate Change at the University, Dr. Mahmoud Adel Hassan, Professor at the same Institute, Dr. Dina Wafa, Deputy Director of the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program, and Ms. Leila El-Lewendy, Director of Scholarships at the Program.
 
 
 
In his speech, Dr. Hesham Saeed welcomed the attendees, stressing Alexandria University’s keenness to strengthen the bonds of cooperation with the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program, and joint work in all academic fields in general and in the field of climate change in particular. He explained that the university has organized many workshops and training courses, and its researchers publish several scientific papers in the specialized scientific fields concerning this vital topic as well as other related fields, such as water, energy, and green hydrogen issues and their applications. He added that the university also participates in implementing projects through the Alexandria University Technology Park incubator in a way that serves sustainable development and Egypt’s 2030 vision.
 
 
 
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen indicated the readiness of Alexandria University to develop cooperation with the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program and American universities in the field of various student activities and discussing the possibility of organizing student activities and events in several Egyptian universities.
 
 
 
Dr. Amal Mowafy praised the cooperation and joint coordination between Alexandria University and the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program at the bachelor’s level, and expressed her aspiration to develop this cooperation at the postgraduate level through grants provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and working to form scientific schools, support innovations and patents, and exchange opinions, ideas, and experiences in the fields of climate change and sustainable development.
