
As part of its efforts to strengthen international academic cooperation and its close ties with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), Prof. Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, participated in the Third General Conference of University Presidents of the Middle East (CONFREMO), successfully hosted by Saint Joseph University of Beirut in the Lebanese capital on September 17 and 18, 2026.
The conference consultations resulted in a new international academic achievement for Alexandria University, as three Vice-Presidents of CONFREMO were selected for a two-year term, based on a geographical distribution ensuring broad representation of the various countries of the Middle East.
The three Vice-Presidents are:
- Prof. Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University (Arab Republic of Egypt).
- Prof. Dr. Moustafa Saem El Daher, President of Damascus University (Syrian Arab Republic).
- Prof. Dr. Abdulmehsen Hamad Fetais, General Legal Counsel of Qatar University, delegated by its President, Prof. Dr. Omar Al Ansari (State of Qatar).
As part of the conference’s regional expansion, the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Lebanon was also approved as a new member, officially joining the academic network.
The conference concluded with a number of key recommendations, foremost among them strengthening joint research strategies, keeping pace with innovation and digital transformation in higher education, and enhancing pathways for students’ professional integration and entrepreneurship across the Middle East.
The conference also concluded with the decision to hold the next General Conference at Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon in autumn 2027.
Alexandria University’s active participation, together with its appointment to the Vice-Presidency of CONFREMO, underscores the University’s growing role in the international academic arena and its commitment to strengthening academic internationalization, knowledge exchange, and cooperation among Francophone universities.
