
Alexandria University Council, chaired by Acting President Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, met on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to discuss preparations for the new academic year and the university’s development plans.
Dr. Abdel Hakim stressed the need to accelerate the university’s transformation into a smart university, with a three-year plan focusing on digital services, technological infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, modernizing curricula, enhancing graduates’ skills, and linking scientific research to labor market needs.
He also designated the new academic year as a “Year of Human Resources,” emphasizing support for students, faculty members, and staff, expanding student activities, nurturing talented and creative students, and providing specialized training programs for faculty members.
The Council reviewed preparations for the new academic year, including the readiness of classrooms, laboratories, and facilities, early announcement of study schedules, improvement of student services and medical care, and support for students with disabilities.
The Council also reviewed developments concerning the university’s international branches, including preparations for the official opening of the Chad branch in May 2027, as well as developments in Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, and Riyadh.
The Council approved 20 scholarships with a 50% tuition reduction for students enrolled in the Master’s Program in Heritage at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels. It also approved the promotion of 33 faculty members, the appointment of 25 lecturers, and the awarding of 79 PhD and 182 Master’s degrees in various disciplines.
At the end of the meeting, the Council honored Major General Mostafa Sultan, Director of University Security, on the occasion of the completion of his tenure, in recognition of his efforts in supporting security and discipline at the university.
