
The Alexandria University Council held its meeting today, Sunday, May 24, 2026, chaired by Professor Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University. During the meeting, he emphasized to faculty deans the necessity of strict adherence to all regulations and procedures governing second semester examinations, as well as ensuring a suitable and calm environment within examination halls to guarantee the smooth and orderly conduct of exams and enable students to perform in a safe and disciplined atmosphere.
He further stressed the importance of prohibiting students from entering examination halls after question papers have been distributed and ensuring compliance with the approved examination paper standards established by the University Council. He also highlighted the need for strict anti-cheating measures, addressing any attempts to disrupt examination procedures, and prohibiting mobile phones and electronic devices inside examination halls. In addition, he emphasized the formation of emergency committees within each faculty to promptly address any urgent issues and to provide all necessary accommodations and facilities for students with disabilities and integrated education students.
Professor Abdel Hakim also emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring of grading and result-processing procedures immediately after the completion of examinations, with the aim of announcing results as quickly as possible, particularly for graduating classes, in order to maintain the academic calendar and serve students’ best interests.
The Council approved the establishment of the Alexandria University Center for Artificial Intelligence as part of supporting the university's Technology Park ecosystem. The center will be responsible for developing and implementing mechanisms that contribute to producing research and applied outputs capable of supporting startup creation by students and faculty members, while fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the university. It will also strengthen partnerships with industrial and private sectors and support collaborative applied projects that address community and labor market needs, while contributing to the development of educational processes and academic programs in line with rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
The Council also approved the establishment of the “Ensat Center for Psychological and Social Support” at Alexandria University to serve university members and their families. The center aims to become a leading platform for promoting psychological and social well-being within the university community by providing a safe and sustainable channel for psychological support and facilitating the early detection of psychological stress and disorders.
Professor Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim also directed council members to pay greater attention to student activities across all university faculties, highlighting their vital role in developing students’ skills, shaping their personalities, and strengthening their sense of belonging and loyalty toward the university. He noted that such activities are essential components in building a well-rounded university student alongside academic development. He referred to the recently organized “International Students Day”, which reflected a positive atmosphere of harmony and interaction among students of different nationalities and demonstrated the university’s success in integrating international students into campus life.
The Council further approved the appointment of Dr. Sameh Riyad, Head of the Environmental Affairs Agency for Alexandria and West Delta Region and Egypt’s representative at United Nations meetings on Mediterranean pollution monitoring and assessment, as an external member of the Community Service and Environmental Development Council for a period of two years.
The Council also approved the renewal of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Alexandria University) and the Ministry of Defense (Medical Research and Regenerative Medicine Center) in the field of scientific research. Additional agreements included a student exchange agreement between Alexandria University’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Sapienza University’s Faculty of Medicine for undergraduate and postgraduate students, a cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Science and Vita Biotics Company, a framework agreement for launching a joint supervision Cotutelle Program between the Faculty of Pharmacy and the University of Regina in Canada, and a cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poland.
The Council further approved donations including medical supplies from One Surgical Company exceeding EGP 4 million, consisting of drug-eluting stents, catheters, and medical equipment for the Department of Cardiology and Vascular Diseases at the Main University Hospital, in addition to a donation worth EGP 12 million from El-Gharably Integrated Engineering Works Company for a medical device for the Electrophysiology Department at Smouha University Hospital.
Finally, the Council approved the promotion of 32 faculty members, including 12 to the rank of Professor and 20 to Associate Professor, the appointment of 15 lecturers, and the awarding of 59 PhD degrees and 153 Master’s degrees across various scientific disciplines.
