Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated a number of new healthcare projects at Alexandria University Hospitals, accompanied by Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, and Prof. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University. The inauguration was attended by Major General Staff / Alaa El-Din Eissa, Chief of Staff of the Northern Military Region, along with senior officials from the Ministry, the University, university hospitals, deans of faculties, members of the House of Representatives and Senate, and representatives of civil society.
These inaugurations come within the framework of the Egyptian state's plan to advance the healthcare system and develop university hospitals, as they represent a fundamental pillar in providing medical services, medical education, and scientific research, through upgrading infrastructure, increasing capacity, and equipping hospitals with the latest medical technologies.
The tour included the inauguration and inspection of several development projects at the Main University Hospital, including the upgrading of oncology, intensive care, cardiac catheterization, and interventional radiology units, in addition to the development of operating rooms and recovery units, and the modernization of neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and urology departments, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare services and providing integrated medical care in accordance with the latest international standards.
The visit also included the inauguration of development works at El-Mowasat University Hospital, including the interventional radiology unit and the stem cell separation and storage unit, as well as reviewing development works at El-Shatby University Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology and El-Shatby Children’s Hospital, including upgrading neonatal units, operating rooms, endoscopy units, and medical equipment.
In his speech, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa affirmed that the unprecedented development witnessed by Alexandria University Hospitals reflects the directives of the political leadership, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which places citizens’ health at the top of the state’s priorities. He noted that investing in the development of university hospitals is a direct investment in building the Egyptian citizen and enhancing the state’s healthcare and scientific capabilities.
The Minister praised the vital role played by Alexandria University in implementing development and modernization plans, commending the efforts of medical staff, faculty members, and employees, as well as the contributions of civil society and the private sector, stressing that such integration represents a successful model of partnership in supporting the healthcare sector.
For his part, Prof. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, expressed his pride in the achievements realized within university hospitals, affirming that the University is steadily moving forward in implementing its comprehensive strategy to develop the healthcare, educational, and research systems, thus strengthening its position as a leading academic and medical institution at both the local and regional levels.
He added that these projects represent a qualitative leap in the level of healthcare services provided and contribute to enhancing medical training and scientific research, affirming the University’s continued efforts to upgrade its infrastructure and expand its technological and operational capacities in line with global advancements.
In his remarks, Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, emphasized that the development taking place in university hospitals reflects the state's commitment to providing advanced healthcare services and improving the quality of medical care in Alexandria Governorate, in line with national development plans in the health sector. He praised the role of Alexandria University in supporting the healthcare system through its university hospitals, which represent a cornerstone in providing medical services, training, and research, affirming that these projects significantly enhance the system’s capacity to meet citizens’ needs.
Dr. Tamer Abdallah Helmy, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Alexandria University Hospitals, stated that the hospitals have recently witnessed the implementation of several important projects that contributed to upgrading infrastructure and improving the quality of healthcare services, enhancing their ability to meet patients’ needs and provide integrated medical care according to the latest standards. He also expressed his appreciation to civil society institutions and the private sector for their effective support.
Dr. Essam Badawy, Acting Executive Director of University Hospitals, indicated that the University has been keen on equipping hospitals with the latest medical devices and increasing their capacity to ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare services, emphasizing that community partnership remains a key pillar in supporting development plans and improving healthcare quality.
The inauguration concluded with honoring a number of individuals, entities, and supporting institutions in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of university hospitals. Representatives of civil society, business leaders, as well as several medical and administrative leaders and staff members were honored for their impactful role in the implementation of these projects and their continuous support, which has greatly contributed to achieving this major advancement in healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the hospitals’ ability to fulfill their service, medical, and research roles.
