
Within the framework of Alexandria University’s commitment to supporting initiatives that highlight the cultural and historical identity of the city of Alexandria, and to enhance its role as a center of scientific and cultural influence, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, participated in the launch of the celebration “Alexandria: The Birth of a Global City,” held under the patronage of Alexandria Governorate in commemoration of the city’s founding.
The event witnessed wide participation from executive, diplomatic, and cultural leaders, in a gathering that reflects the ancient legacy of Alexandria and its enduring civilizational significance, reaffirming its status as a global city that blends authenticity with modernity.
The event was attended by a high-level delegation led by Engineer Ayman Atia, Governor of Alexandria; Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; along with a number of ambassadors, consuls, and representatives of relevant institutions. The celebration was organized in cooperation between Alexandria Governorate, the Greek Embassy, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and several cultural and archaeological institutions.
The celebrations featured a ceremonial parade that started in front of the Greco-Roman Museum on Fouad Street, passing by the statue of Alexander the Great at the Clock Square, and concluding at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The parade included Egyptian and Greek children and youth wearing traditional costumes, in a symbolic scene reflecting the cultural diversity that has distinguished the city since its foundation.
The event also included a variety of artistic and cultural performances, such as Egyptian and Greek folklore shows, military music, and maritime and theatrical performances along the Alexandria Corniche, in addition to heritage presentations that highlighted the city’s rich history and civilizational legacy, in a festive atmosphere that drew strong audience engagement.
The participation of the President of Alexandria University reflects the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the cultural and historical identity of the city and reinforce its role as a hub of scientific and cultural influence, in line with Alexandria’s standing as a global city that unites heritage and modernity.
