Prof. Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hameed, Acting President of Alexandria University, announced that the university has achieved outstanding results in the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2026, reflecting its advanced standing at the global, regional, and national levels, and confirming its strong performance in research, innovation, and societal impact.

He explained that the results placed the university in the global first quartile (Q1), meaning it ranks among the top 25% of universities worldwide. In the field of innovation, the university ranked in the second quartile (Q2), indicating strong performance with promising opportunities for further advancement in this area.

At the African level, Dr. Abdel Hameed noted that Alexandria University also achieved Q1 status across all indicators, ranking 10th in Africa in the overall classification—placing it among the top 6% of universities on the continent. Nationally, the university continued to strengthen its position among Egypt’s leading universities (top 5%), securing 4th place.

In terms of academic disciplines, the results showed distinguished performance in several research fields, with strong global rankings in Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Pharmacy. The university also demonstrated notable regional progress across Environmental Sciences and Human Medicine at the level of Africa, the Middle East, and the Arab region, reflecting the diversity and strength of its research base.

Dr. Abdel Hameed further announced exceptional performance in Dentistry, where Alexandria University ranked 49th worldwide, placing it among the global elite in this field. It also achieved 2nd place in Africa and 2nd place nationally among Egyptian universities. This reflects the strength of the discipline, high rates of international publications and citations, and its strong connection to clinical applications and community service.

He emphasized that this progress is the result of the collective efforts and dedication of faculty members, researchers, and students, noting that the excellence of several disciplines—particularly in the medical sector and dentistry—stems from policies supporting scientific research and international publishing.

He added that the university continues to develop its research system, strengthen international collaboration, and support publication in high-impact journals, contributing to maximizing its scientific and societal impact and reinforcing its position as an academic and research hub at both regional and international levels.

He concluded by expressing his appreciation to all members of the university community for their remarkable efforts, affirming that the coming phase will witness further work to enhance excellence and competitiveness, in line with Egypt’s vision for advancing higher education and scientific research.
