
Alexandria University achieved a distinguished sporting milestone by securing a large number of first and advanced positions at the 53rd edition of the Egyptian Universities and Institutes League (African Universities Championship Simulation Edition). The league was organized by the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation and hosted by Ain Shams University, Cairo University, American University in Cairo, and universities in the New Administrative Capital, with the participation of more than 3,000 male and female students representing various Egyptian universities and institutes.
The league and its simulation tournaments included 36 different sports.
In this context, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of the University, expressed his pride in the honorable results achieved by the university’s students, affirming that this accomplishment reflects the tremendous efforts exerted by the Sports Activities Administration, coaches, and the General Administration of Youth Welfare. He also emphasized the university’s commitment to providing an integrated environment that supports athletic excellence alongside academic achievement, believing in the vital role of student activities in building balanced personalities capable of competition and leadership. He further affirmed the university’s continued support for talented students, enabling them to represent the university honorably at local and international forums.
It is worth noting that the General Administration of Youth Welfare participated in this major national sporting event with a delegation of 365 students, 37 administrators, and 32 coaches under the supervision of the University’s Sports Activities Department.
The competitions resulted in outstanding achievements in individual sports as follows:
First Place: Judo (Men & Women), Karate (Men & Women), Athletics (Men & Women), Table Tennis (Men & Women), and Chess (Women).
Second Place: Finswimming (Men), Fencing (Men & Women), and Modern Pentathlon (Women).
Third Place: Finswimming (Women), Wrestling, and Padel Tennis (Men).
Eighth Place: Padel Tennis (Women).
The university’s teams also advanced to the later stages in several competitions, including Squash (Men & Women) reaching the quarterfinals, Tennis, Badminton, Chess (Men), and Modern Pentathlon (Men). The Taekwondo championship (Men & Women) was not held.
At the team sports level, the university continued its excellence by achieving:
First Place: Football League (Men) and Handball League (Women).
Second Place: Basketball League (Men) and 3×3 Basketball (Men).
Third Place: Volleyball League (Women) and Basketball League (Women).
The university also secured fourth place in the Handball League (Men) and eighth place in the Volleyball League (Men), while the Women’s 3×3 Basketball team exited in the Round of 16.
