Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, reviewed during the University Council meeting held today, Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the pivotal role of the Alexandria University Technology Park in supporting the innovation ecosystem and linking scientific research to societal needs. His Excellency emphasized the importance of leveraging the research and scientific capabilities available within the university and working to transform research outputs into practical applications that serve society and support the transition toward a knowledge-based economy.

The University President pointed out that the university has established a set of criteria and mechanisms aimed at encouraging researchers to conduct scientific research aligned with the national strategy of the state and its development plans. He clarified that the Technology Park will play an active role in funding promising applied and research projects. Dr. Konsowa also called on the various faculties of the university to submit executable ideas and initiatives, particularly those targeting the support of students’ ideas in the field of entrepreneurship, to be reviewed through the Technology Park to explore funding mechanisms and the feasibility of implementation on the ground.

The Alexandria University Council honored the leaders of innovative teams of researchers and students who received incubation contracts for their research projects from the University’s Technology Valley, including technical and financial support that contributes to transforming research ideas into market-ready applied products. Those honored were:

Student Abdel Rahman Abdel Bari – Faculty of Science

The University President also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the team responsible for Alexandria University obtaining the title of “Most Sustainable University in Africa for 2025,” according to the results of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, announced by the organizing body on December 5 during the international ceremony hosted by Taiwan, with the participation of hundreds of universities from around the world. He explained that this achievement reflects the integrated institutional efforts exerted by the university in the field of environmental sustainability and sustainable development, stressing that all contributors to this achievement will be honored in appreciation of their distinguished roles and effective contributions.

The Council congratulated the Faculty of Engineering at Alexandria University on winning one of the projects of the presidential initiative “Alliance and Development,” aimed at enhancing the electric vehicle industry and smart transportation through increasing local content and qualifying human resources. This reflects the strength of the innovation ecosystem at Alexandria University and its ability to transform research outputs into applied products and startup companies that serve the national economy and align with the state’s orientation toward supporting entrepreneurial projects.

The University Council was informed of the convening of the “Supreme Council for Students with Disabilities” at Alexandria University, which is the first of its kind at the level of Egyptian universities, in a pioneering step reflecting the university’s commitment to supporting and empowering students with disabilities, enhancing equal opportunities, and achieving full integration within the university community. Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, indicated that this council comes within the framework of the university’s keenness to provide a supportive and inclusive educational environment, discuss issues and needs related to students with disabilities, and develop mechanisms and policies that contribute to improving the educational and administrative services provided to them, ensuring their effective participation in various university activities.

The Council approved the launch of the “Smart Waste Management” Award for smart waste management and its implementation within Alexandria University, with three financial prizes allocated to the winners. This comes within the framework of supporting innovative solutions and promoting environmental sustainability concepts. Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, indicated that a specialized technical team will be formed to compile and integrate the winning ideas and proposals and work on transforming them into an integrated smart waste management system within the university, contributing to improving environmental management efficiency and achieving sustainable development goals.

The Council also approved updating the currently approved list, JCR 2023 (SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI), which includes 13,603 journals distributed across 254 disciplines, to the newly issued JCR 2024 list (SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI), which includes 14,740 journals distributed across 254 disciplines. This update will be applied starting January 1, 2026, in encouragement of researchers to publish scientifically across various disciplines.

The Council approved the renewal of the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Medicine and Alexandria University Hospitals) in Egypt and the Faculties of Medicine in Toulouse (Paul Sabatier University – Toulouse III) and Toulouse University Hospital in France. It also approved the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Education) and Rennes 2 University in France, the framework international cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science) and Lyon University in France, the memorandum of understanding for institutional cooperation between Alexandria University and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, and the framework agreement for academic cooperation between Alexandria University and the University of Haute-Alsace – Cedex, France.

The Council approved a donation from Pharos University valued at 2.15 million Egyptian pounds, consisting of drug-eluting stents and medical supplies for the benefit of patients of the Cardiology and Vascular Department at Smouha University Hospital. It also approved donations from the International Spinning Company (Interian) valued at 2.21 million Egyptian pounds, consisting of engineering machines for the benefit of the Spinning and Weaving Department at the Faculty of Engineering.

Finally, the Council approved the promotion of 33 faculty members (10 to the rank of Professor and 23 to the rank of Associate Professor), the appointment of 18 lecturers, and the awarding of 72 PhD degrees and 191 Master’s degrees in various scientific disciplines.
