
During the meeting of the Community Service and Environmental Development Council Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development, extended her congratulations to Professor Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and to the entire university community on the occasion of Alexandria University being awarded the title of “The Most Sustainable University in Africa for 2025”, according to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

She emphasized that this achievement reflects the significant efforts exerted by the university in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable development, as well as its strong support for green transformation projects across the university.
Dr. Al-Oufy also stressed the importance of assigning six representatives from each faculty for each axis of the ranking, to ensure continuous coordination and effective preparation for participation in the upcoming evaluation cycle.
Dr. Al-Oufy further announced the launch of a student competition entitled “Smart Waste Management”, aimed at developing and implementing innovative solutions for smart waste management. The competition includes three financial prizes, in addition to the formation of a technical team tasked with integrating the winning ideas into a comprehensive smart waste management system to be implemented across Alexandria University.
The Council was also briefed on Alexandria University’s hosting of the Organizing Committee of the Egypt Government Excellence Award, which will evaluate the Alexandria University Internal Excellence Award for 2025. In this context, it was announced that five faculties had won the internal excellence award and will represent the university in the Egypt Government Excellence Award 2025 at the level of Egyptian universities.
The activation of Government Excellence Units within each faculty was also emphasized.
Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy outlined the main objectives of the sector, which include enhancing the leadership and competitiveness of Alexandria University and improving the quality of life of all university affiliates, including students, faculty members, and staff. During the meeting, she also defined the roles and responsibilities of the participating units and departments from the faculties in developing strategies for the various academic sectors of the university.
The Council reviewed the latest developments in the Occupational Safety and Health file, where Dr. Fahmy Sharal, Emeritus Professor at the High Institute of Public Health, noted that specialized working teams are currently being formed to manage risks. He added that periodic inspections of facilities are underway, along with the collection of environmental samples from laboratories to ensure the safety of students and faculty members, with particular emphasis on evacuation plans and fire prevention measures.

In addition, Dr. Salah Suleiman, General Coordinator of the university course “Community Issues,” reviewed Alexandria University’s activities aimed at raising students’ awareness of key societal issues, including population challenges, human rights, combating corruption, countering malicious rumors, citizenship, and Egyptian national security.
The Council also reviewed reports on activities and events implemented by the faculties and institutes of the university during November and December, which included the launch of medical and community convoys, as well as the organization of workshops, awareness and educational seminars, religious lectures, and scientific conferences.
