The Postgraduate Studies and Research Council at Alexandria University held its meeting on the morning of Tuesday, 18 November 2025, chaired by Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research. The council reviewed the university’s research performance indicators for the year 2025, which demonstrated significant progress in the volume and impact of scientific publishing by faculty members and researchers. A total of 3,370 research articles were published in indexed international scientific journals, 16.4% of which ranked among the top 10% most cited papers worldwide, while 2.2% ranked within the top 1% globally in citation rates. Dr. Saeed also affirmed that the university’s Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) recorded levels several times higher than the global average, reflecting the high quality of the university’s research output.
The council discussed AI-enhanced research services provided through the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, including Scopus AI, integrated within the Scopus database by Elsevier. The tool enables researchers to gain a rapid understanding of the research landscape by using natural language queries instead of traditional keywords, in addition to identifying research gaps, emerging topics, and new methodological patterns. The council also reviewed the ScienceDirect AI tool, embedded in the ScienceDirect platform, which specializes in analyzing full-text scientific publications, helping researchers achieve deeper insights into scientific studies and efficiently compare research findings through intelligent content analysis.
The council approved an update to the JCR global journal list under the Web of Science classification, which includes 14,740 journals across 254 disciplines. The updated list will be applied starting January 2026, in support of researchers and to encourage high-quality publication in top-tier international journals.
Additionally, the council ratified several international cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding, including the renewal of the joint master’s program in Urban Design and Sustainable Revitalization between Alexandria University, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus (Germany), and Cairo University; an academic and research collaboration agreement with Istanbul University in Turkey; an MoU between the Faculty of Science and the Federal University of Brazil for cooperation in science, arts, and culture; an agreement to provide specialized Chinese language instructors for the Faculty of Arts in cooperation with the Chinese Center for Education and Cooperation; a memorandum of understanding with the BRICS Academy for Skills Development and Technological Innovation in China to collaborate in research, training, and technology exchange; and a partnership agreement with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) in Canada to support the integration of artificial intelligence technologies in higher education across the Middle East.
The meeting also addressed policies and regulations governing the suspension of enrollment for Egyptian and international postgraduate students, with the aim of developing registration procedures and facilitating study and research processes.
