Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated Dr. Affaf Khamis Ibrahim Mohamed Al-Oufi, Professor of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology at the Faculty of Engineering, on the occasion of the presidential decree appointing her as Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, wishing her continued success in serving both the University and society.
It is worth noting that Dr. Al-Oufi obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Textile Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, before earning her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Drexel University, USA, in 2004.
Dr. Al-Oufi has held several academic and leadership positions, including Head of the Textile Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University (2015–2020), Vice Dean of the Faculty, and most recently Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Galala University since July 2023.
She played a pioneering role in establishing the first laboratories for the fabrication and application of nanomaterials in Egypt and the Middle East, and contributed to launching research projects and Centers of Excellence in collaboration with prestigious international universities. She was also actively involved in the national strategic plan for developing Egypt’s textile industry, in addition to serving as a board member of Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El-Mahalla El-Kubra, as well as several committees at the Ministry of Public Enterprises.
Dr. Al-Oufi has also played a key role in drafting international cooperation agreements with global universities and research institutions, and has supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses. Her research output is rich in the fields of nanotechnology, advanced materials, and sustainability. She has received several prestigious national and international awards, most notably the Best African Academic Researcher in Engineering Award from the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO) – UNESCO in 2023, the University Scientific Encouragement Award from Alexandria University in 2013, in addition to being honored among the top researchers at Alexandria University during the Science Day celebration in 2016.
