The Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at Alexandria University participated in an awareness meeting organized by the National Council for Women, aimed at raising university community awareness of the Council’s role in the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family. The event was attended by faculty members, directors of anti-violence units from several universities, as well as student representatives from various Egyptian universities.

During the opening session, Dr. Mayada Abdelkader, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law at Alexandria University, member of the Council, and Rapporteur of the Governorates Committee, emphasized that the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family is one of the most significant and comprehensive development projects in modern Egyptian history, enjoying unprecedented political support. She highlighted the Council’s commitment to ensuring that university youth play a pivotal role in implementing its various pillars, whether through awareness and cultural activities, field initiatives, or training and capacity-building programs, all of which contribute to strengthening the role of youth as active partners in the national development journey.

Dr. Mona Hegres, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, also underlined the vital role of Egyptian universities in supporting the project’s objectives through curricula and student activities, activating the role of anti-violence units, as well as launching university-based initiatives in family, health, and financial awareness, entrepreneurship, innovation, and promoting applied research related to population and social issues.

In this context, Dr. Manal Fouda, Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at Alexandria University, affirmed the University’s constant commitment to supporting women’s and family issues through the activation of the unit’s role, and the adoption of awareness and training programs targeting students. She stressed the University’s belief in its mission as the highest academic institution responsible for preparing ambassadors for strengthening the primary societal structure—the family—and as a key partner in achieving sustainable development and building an aware and cohesive society aligned with the aspirations of the New Republic.

The meeting included coordinated presentations on the project’s various interventions, including: the Digital Savings and Lending Groups Program, community-based dialogue sessions (“El Dawar”), the Family Counseling and Balanced Upbringing Program, vocational workshops and production units, in addition to highlighting the Council’s efforts to provide a safe university environment for women and girls through the establishment of 46 Anti-Violence Units across Egyptian universities.

The meeting also witnessed open discussions among faculty members, students, and directors of anti-violence units, during which ideas and suggestions were proposed to support the project’s objectives in cooperation with the National Council for Women and its governorate branches.

The event concluded with an agreement to develop a joint action plan between the Council and Egyptian universities, led by Alexandria University, to enhance integration in implementing the goals of the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family.
