During the University Council meeting held today, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, reviewed the results of the foreign visits made by him and his accompanying delegation to the university's branches under construction in the UAE and Malaysia. These visits support Egypt's Vision 2030 and its drive towards internationalizing higher education, as well as Alexandria University's strategic plan for regional and international expansion, opening new horizons for cross-border higher education.
- The University President explained that the Alexandria University International Branch in Abu Dhabi will attract students of various nationalities from the UAE and neighbouring countries. He explained that the vision being implemented will consolidate the branch's position as a leading educational institution capable of serving the local and regional community and creating a qualitative shift in the university's journey toward regional and international expansion. Dr. Konsowa added that during his visit to the branch, he inspected the academic and administrative buildings and facilities being prepared for the commencement of undergraduate and graduate programs in various academic disciplines in 2026.
- The University President also reviewed the results of his visit to the University's International Branch in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, in preparation for its opening in 2026. He explained that the visit included meetings with Malaysian government officials and the board of directors of the company hosting the branch, in addition to an inspection tour of the branch's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. He indicated that the branch would offer academic and professional programs in accordance with the latest international standards, while also offering dual programs that grant graduates degrees from Alexandria University and prestigious international universities. It will also be attractive to students from Malaysia and neighbouring countries.
- Dr. Konsowa also reviewed the results of the visit of a delegation from Beirut Arab University, headed by Dr. Ammar El-Houry, to Alexandria University. The visit addressed means for academic and research cooperation between the two sides, including the establishment of an international branch of Beirut Arab University in cooperation with Alexandria University. This paves the way for an academic partnership that strengthens the strong historical ties between the two universities since their inception in 1960 and meets the needs of the regional and international labour market.
- The Alexandria University Council also approved the formation of a specialized committee to prepare the necessary study to develop a comprehensive vision for a housing project that serves all university members, including faculty members, supporting staff, and employees. This decision comes within the framework of the university's commitment to providing a better working and living environment for its members and enhancing their social and job stability, which will positively impact the educational and research process and the services the university provides to the community.
- The Council honoured Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, on the occasion of the conclusion of his tenure. The University President commended his efforts and dedication in fulfilling all the academic and administrative responsibilities he assumed during his tenure.
- The Council also honoured Dr. Nefertiti Hassan Zaki, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, on the occasion of the conclusion of her tenure, appreciating her dedicated efforts and distinguished contributions during her tenure as Dean of the Faculty.
- The Council approved the inclusion of the Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence course as an elective course for the university's graduate programs.
- The Council approved the allocation of 300 scholarships at a 50% discount on the credit hour value for diploma students in the Faculty of Business for the 2025/2026 academic year.
- The Council also approved the allocation of 1,000 scholarships for graduate students in all diploma programs in education and teacher preparation in the sciences or arts at the Faculty of Education for the Fall 2025 semester.
- The Council approved the establishment of an ICESCO (The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Chair at Alexandria University on Cultural Heritage, Tourism, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainable Development.
- The Council approved the undergraduate student exchange program agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Chicago, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Cyprus, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and Kent State University in the United States of America, the framework agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Cergy in France, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the University of Debrecen in Hungary, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the Federal State Independent Institution of Higher Education - National Research Nuclear University (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) in Russia, the academic cooperation memorandum between Alexandria University and the Board of Trustees of the University of Missouri on behalf of Missouri University of Science and Technology in the United States of America, and the memorandum of agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Connecticut.
- The Council approved the new internal and external memberships of the faculty councils for the 2025/2026 academic year.
- The Council approved the promotion of 33 faculty members (16 to the rank of professor and 17 to the rank of assistant professor), the appointment of 28 lecturers, and the awarding of 76 doctoral degrees and 192 master's degrees in various scientific disciplines.
