Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated Dr. Mohamed Lotfy, President of the British University in Egypt, on his selection by the UK government in the 2025 King's Birthday Honours List and his being awarded the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education in both the UK and Egypt.
It is worth noting that Dr. Mohamed Lotfy is a graduate of Alexandria University, where he was a faculty member at the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research. He traveled to obtain his doctorate from the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom. He has a rich history and academic career, and has raised Egypt's profile high. He is one of the youngest to hold a leading academic position at a UK university, most notably as First Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff Metropolitan University, as well as the University of Sunderland. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Magna Charta Observatory in Bologna, which supports fundamental values, rights, and the independence of education and research at universities, from 2011 to 2019. He currently holds the position of Ambassador for Magna Charta, as well as the position of Vice-President of the Arab-European Network for the Training of University Leaders (ARELEN). He has also served as an advisor to the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education in the United Kingdom and as a member of the Academic Council of its Leadership Foundation for Higher Education International Program.
