As part of the cooperation between Alexandria University and the Department of Popular and Military Defense to promote values of loyalty and belonging among students, and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Department of Popular and Military Defense organized an extensive educational lecture on Egypt’s national security challenges and mechanisms for combating rumors. The event took place at the Faculty of Science.
The lecture was delivered by Major General Dr. Mohamed Anwar El-Hemashry, Advisor at the Armed Forces Center for Strategic Studies, and was attended by the faculty leadership and officials from the University’s Military Education Department.

During the lecture, Major General El-Hemashry presented a comprehensive analytical vision of regional challenges and Egypt’s capabilities in safeguarding its stability and protecting its borders. He reviewed the concept of Egyptian national security within a region marked by tensions, emphasizing the readiness of the Armed Forces and state institutions to defend the nation and confront complex security threats. He also addressed the state’s efforts in combating terrorism and securing Egypt’s western, southern, and eastern borders, stressing that public awareness is a key pillar of national security, and that rumors can pose a threat no less significant than direct military challenges.
Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department, noted that such meetings aim to shield young people from misinformation and misguided ideas, equipping them with analytical skills and the ability to distinguish facts from falsehoods. He affirmed the ongoing efforts of the Military Education Department to support students and enhance their role in safeguarding national security.
The seminar concluded with an open discussion between the students and the speaker, which included questions and dialogues about the role of youth in supporting state stability and the mechanisms for verifying information and distinguishing credible news from rumors on social media platforms.
