On Monday the 18th of December 2023, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, inaugurated the Eleventh Alexandria International Conference on Structural and Geotechnical Engineering and Management, which is organized by the Department of Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering for two days at the Palestine Hotel. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Essam El-Kurdi, President of Al-Alamein International University, Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Chairman of the Conference, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service Affairs, Dr. Mohamed El-Howeiti, Scientific Head of the Conference, Dr. Ahmed Tarabiyah, Conference Rapporteur, in addition to several representatives of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, representatives of military academies, former presidents and vice-presidents of Egyptian universities, chairmen of the boards of directors of major industrial and construction companies, members of the Alexandria Businessmen Association, the Engineers Syndicate, as well as university faculty members and researchers.
In his speech during the opening session, Dr. Konsowa stressed the importance of this conference, which comes within the framework of Alexandria University’s keenness to keep pace with the great development in the Egyptian state and its national plans for sustainable development to build the new republic, by discussing the latest scientific research findings in the field of construction engineering, and presenting scientific experiments and research in this field. He also referred to the university’s efforts in internationalization and partnerships with international universities, and its signing of a large number of double degrees based on the prestigious status of Alexandria University. He expressed his hopes that the conference would come out with fruitful recommendations that would benefit the nation’s advancement and progress.
While Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Development Affairs and Chairman of the Conference, confirmed that the Faculty of Engineering has provided support for this conference over the course of 33 years because of its great benefit in increasing knowledge in the field of projects and construction engineering. He added that the conference activities during the two days include a group of scientific lectures by distinguished professors from the USA, Canada, Germany, Italy and Australia.
Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, pointed out that the conference coincided with the great progress within the country in various fields, and stressed the necessity of strengthening academic communication between the university and the industrial community in terms of scientific requirements and qualifying students of the Faculty of Engineering in this regard, through the development of new programs and student exchange with foreign universities.
Dr. Mohamed El-Howeiti, the scientific head of the conference, explained that the conference activities include 13 scientific lectures delivered by distinguished scientists from different countries, and also presents 50 research papers divided into 8 research sessions.
Dr. Ahmed Tarabiyah, the rapporteur of the conference, pointed out that the structural engineering conference began more than 30 years ago and continues this year with the presence of a large number of international researchers and speakers from six different countries.
On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition of companies and industrial bodies participating in the conference was opened, during which some of their modern products were displayed.
