Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Afaf El-Oufi, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, inaugurated the Fourth Annual Conference of the Medical Research Center, held at Dr. Abdelaziz Bilal Hall at the Faculty of Medicine.

The conference was attended by Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Radwa Mehanna, Professor of Medical Physiology, Director of the Medical Research Center, and Chair of the Conference; and Dr. Ola Sharaki, Professor of Clinical Pathology and Honorary President of the Conference, in addition to a distinguished group of faculty members, researchers, and several chairpersons of pharmaceutical companies.

In her speech, Dr. Afaf El-Oufi emphasized the importance of the conference and its role in highlighting the latest advancements in modern medical research. She noted that the conference serves as a significant scientific platform for presenting research outcomes that contribute to patient care and the development of the healthcare system. She also praised the faculty’s support for young researchers by providing them with opportunities to present their work to senior professors and experts, enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expanding scientific cooperation between research and medical institutions. She confirmed that the conference’s outcomes are expected to contribute to improving public health and aligning education outputs with labor market needs in medical and technological fields.

For his part, Dr. Tamer Abdallah explained that research centers at the Faculty of Medicine represent a fundamental pillar in the college’s development. He noted that the Faculty attaches particular importance to centers such as the Medical Research Center, the Clinical Research Center, and the Genomics Research Laboratory, and works to continuously support them so they remain capable of producing high-quality research that contributes to early diagnosis, treatment, and innovation in modern healthcare technologies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Radwa Mehanna reviewed the most notable achievements of the Medical Research Center during 2025, highlighting that the center consists of 12 laboratories and a Center of Excellence for Regenerative Medicine Research. She added that the center succeeded in publishing more than 80 scientific papers in international journals, in addition to 165 master's and doctoral theses and 13 research projects. She also noted that five researchers were honored for obtaining the American Board Diploma in Regenerative Medicine from the Center of Excellence, which serves as the official authorized representative for training and awarding the diploma in Egypt.

In her remarks, Dr. Ola Sharaki expressed her appreciation to all researchers, organizers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of the conference, praising the efforts made to develop the Medical Research Center so it may continue its vital role in delivering pioneering medical research that enhances diagnostic accuracy and improves treatment effectiveness.

The conference concluded with an honoring ceremony for several former directors of the Medical Research Center and distinguished researchers, in recognition of their contributions to supporting and advancing education and scientific research at the university. The event ended in a celebratory atmosphere reflecting pride in the remarkable research achievements at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University.
